Sherry Holt This form of therapy—commonly referred to as the “talking cure”—benefits anyone who feels dissatisfaction or discomfort in the emotional quality and functioning of their daily lives. This approach views therapy as emotional guidance and support assisting clients to gain awareness into their own issues of concern. Once this awareness is established, both client and therapist are empowered to make necessary changes such as inaccurate perceptions and beliefs that are undermining the client’s ability to attain self-fulfillment. Therapy attracts people who feel weakened by their issues and need support, as well as those who desire spiritual and personal growth, and an increased sense of personal strength and effectiveness. Sherry has worked as a private psychotherapist since 1997, originally starting as a social worker in 1982. She is President of the Anxiety Disorders Association of Canada, and is a clinical member of the Canadian Psychological Association.
